Common questions
Do candle labels legally need a warning?
U.S. candles carry the ASTM F2058 fire-safety warning — the signal word "WARNING," the safety-alert symbol, and the burn-safety statements (burn within sight; keep away from things that catch fire; keep away from children and pets). It is the recognized standard of care, and marketplaces such as Etsy and Amazon Handmade expect it.
What has to be on a candle label?
For most makers, four things: the ASTM F2058 fire-safety warning, the FPLA net-weight statement in both US customary and metric units, a manufacturer or distributor identity line, and the California Proposition 65 warning if you sell into California.
Does my candle need a California Prop 65 warning?
Only if you sell or ship into California and a component (often a fragrance ingredient) is a listed chemical above its safe-harbor level. Many makers add the short-form warning proactively because online orders cross state lines.
